Faces of Alzheimer’s is an exhibit of 50 recent, journalistic portraits of individuals with Alzheimer’s disease by Sophan Theam. These compelling images, taken of individuals living in the Tampa Bay area between Spring and Fall of 2015, provide a perspective beyond the overwhelming statistics and give focus to the unique persons living with Alzheimer’s. Sophan began her career as a registered nurse and now works full-time as a photographer. Born in a Thai refugee camp following her family’s escape from the war in Cambodia – a period of her family’s life that is void of family photos – Sophan is driven her to capture photographs of people in all stages of life as a means of preserving thoughtful, sensitive images, and pay tribute to the individual and their life experiences.
