Icons of Black & White
In 2001, the Florida Museum of Photographic Arts opened its doors and featured its first exhibition, “Masters of Black & White,” consisting of 50 iconic black and white images borrowed from private collections. “Masters of Black & White II” followed in 2008. In celebration of FMoPA’s growth and move to Ybor City, “Icons of Black & White” will feature a variety of important photographs showcasing this classic and timeless art form. The exhibition expands the potential of movement, expression, and beauty within monochromatic photography and demonstrates how vibrant the world can be, even in the absence of color!

This exhibition showcases the remarkable work of students aged 55+ who have participated in the FMoPA’s outreach program. Since February 2023, the museum’s educational team has traveled to different centers to provide seniors with classes that celebrate the power of self-expression, creativity, and the art of photography. Through multiple workshop sessions, participants have
improved their skills and learned about composition, lighting, and the technical aspects of photography. These sessions have fostered a sense of community, shared learning, and a newfound appreciation for the world around us.
The participants have embraced the world of photography to capture moments and express themselves in unique and meaningful ways. Their images provide glimpses into their personal experiences, emotions, and perspectives, reminding us that creativity knows no age limits.
