Ric Savid: Darkroom Silver Linings

On view May 1 – June 1, 2025

Ric Savid’s analog black and white portraits invite us to slow down and connect. Raised in a home filled with art and music, as a self-taught photographer, he found early inspiration in the stillness of family portraits on the walls and the solitude of his darkroom, where his focus and concentration became almost meditative. Now, as the St. Pete Month of Photography Photo Laureate of 2024, Savid has deepened his commitment to photography as a means of human connection. “This project has ingrained in me how much I enjoy people. This is essential in a world I see as imprisoned by phones, screens, and our unending rushing about”. His portraits are collaborations—spoken or unspoken agreements between photographer and subject, often of strangers, shaped by patience, instinct, and luck. “The best photographs find me—when I’m paying attention”.
