June 3 – September 20, 2016

Shai Kremer’s World Trade Center: Concrete Abstract is comprised of ten intricate, palimpsest-like photographic images (60” x 80”) on loan from Julie Saul Gallery in New York City. In this series, Israel-born Kremer explores the complexities of destruction and reconstruction surrounding the September 11th, 2001 World Trade Center tragedies. Layering multiple photographic images to create a single image, Kremer investigates the reinvention the World Trade Center site “‘as a means to pay homage to America, to New York, to their trauma, and to their recovery,’” maintaining “‘a post-traumatic gaze on the cityscape of Manhattan – and by extrapolation, on the sociological landscape of America.’”*
