Portfolio Review by Photographer Len Bernstein March 10th

March 10, 2019 @ 3:30 pm - 6:00 pm

$90 – $100

FMoPA is delighted to offer individual portfolio reviews by photographer and educator Len Bernstein on Saturday, March 9th starting at 3:30pm and Sunday March 10th at 3pm. For over 40 years, Mr. Bernstein’s knowledge and passion about the medium has inspired photographers. Along with discussing the technical aspects of photography in a clear and friendly manner, what makes him such an effective teacher is his ability to impart a way of seeing that enables others to express more deeply through their images what they feel about the world around them. Each attendee will receive a copy of his book Photography, Life, and the Opposites. Portfolio reviews will last approximately 45 minutes.

Price: $100, $90 for members

These one-on-one reviews will be offered on a first come, first served basis due to the limited number of sessions available. Open to all levels of photographers.

Discussing his approach to teaching, Len Bernstein writes:

“For many years I’ve had the pleasure of conducting portfolio reviews based on this principle stated by Eli Siegel, founder of Aesthetic Realism, ‘All beauty is a making one of opposites, and the making one of opposites is what we are going after in ourselves.’ It is a wonderful fact that photographers, whatever their subject matter or approach, are trying to put together opposites in their work—such as dark and light, sharpness and blur, rest and motion—and hope to make sense of these same opposites in their everyday lives. Studying this, I’ve seen there is no limit to how much beauty we can find with our cameras!

Some questions we will consider are: What was your intention?; What is the relation of technique and feeling?; As a photographer, what is your criticism of how you see?; What are you hoping for?”
