FMoPA opens doors for regular operations in Ybor City on September 14.
The “soft open” will introduce the museum’s new location and will prominently feature the inaugural exhibition titled Icons of Black & White. Featuring a selection of photographs from FMoPA’s permanent collection and contributions from the Robert and Chitranee Drapkin Collection and the Trenam Law Collection, as well as an anonymous loan, this exhibition offers a unique opportunity for visitors to immerse themselves in the world of fine art photography. Vintage photographs by renowned artists such as Ansel Adams, Dorothea Lange, Charles “Teeny” Harris, Lewis Hine, Philippe Halsman, and Edward Weston are among those whose works will grace the walls of FMoPA, captivating audiences with their remarkable craftsmanship and storytelling.
Along with Icons of Black & White, the Community Gallery will feature our Annual Prodigy Exhibition. This showcase highlights the artistic achievements of underserved children who’ve participated in FMoPA’s outreach and education programs held throughout the summer. FMoPA’s Outreach and education in 2023 passed a significant milestone for the Museum as we celebrated successfully imparting the art of photography to over 1,000 individuals through our educational initiatives. This year’s Prodigy exhibition serves as a heartwarming reminder of the power of creativity and education.
