Digital Lunches

Weekend Digital Workshops

If you already know how to handle your digital camera, but you want to improve your photographs, the Florida Museum of Photographic Arts is offering classes in digital camera techniques.  The workshops consist of two classes, (parts I and II) and are scheduled for two successive Saturdays each month: October - no workshop, November 15 and 22 and December 20 and 27, 2008.  Sign up now for FMoPA's WEEKEND DIGITAL WORKSHOPS!

Photography 101

This is a five-week class which will help you gain a better understanding of your camera, camera settings, photo composition, lighting, aperture setting, and shutter speed. Photographs will be taken both in and out of the classroom, with weekly photo assignments Each class will consist of time devoted to one aspect of photography, and one aspect of technology related to photography.  Of course, there will be time during each class to take pictures! You can learn the technical, artistic, and practical uses of your camera and have some fun at the same time.  The next class begins Tuesday, October 21 and runs through November 18, 2008.  Sign up now for a class to learn "Getting Great Holiday Pictures"!

Digital Darkroom

Want to learn how to "Photoshop" your pictures? Come join us for a 4-week class that will help you learn basic photo-editing skills, as well as some more advanced techniques. It will be a fun and informational class. There will be weekly assignments to help you learn outside of the classroom. Basic computer skills are required but no Photoshop experience is necessary. Feel free to bring your pictures to class for recommendations on editing.  The next class begins Tuesday, September 16 and runs through October 7, 2008.  Sign up now!

Intensive Photography Lighting Workshop

Please join the Florida Museum of Photographic Arts for a one-day intensive photography lighting workshop.  This six-hour seminar will include the use of natural and artificial light.  It will also introduce the use of light modifiers including reflectors, scrims, and flash attachments.  The workshop is an great opportunity to learn how to photograph in all types of lighting environments!  The last workshop was Saturday, July 12.  Check back for future workshops.

Night-time Photography Safari

Day-time Nature Photography Safari

FMoPA strikes again!  We are continuing our popular Photography Safari series to present our second daytime NATURE SAFARI at Lowry Park Zoo in Tampa.  This Safari includes one hour of pre-tour briefing on wildlife photography techniques at FMoPA, three hours of walking tour with ample time to capture (photographically) many of the animals, lunch (available at the zoo), two hours of downloading, projection, and critique of your work in the classroom back at FMoPA.  As in the past, this Safari will be led by Dan Harnly, our Wednesday and Saturday Digital Photography Workshop Instructor, and Audubon Photographer.  The last safari was held on Saturday, September 6, 2008.  Check back for future FMoPA DAY-TIME NATURE PHOTOGRAPHY SAFARI's!

Children's Outreach Program

The museum's Children's Outreach Program is titled Literacy through Photography and is dedicated to the value that children's education through photography is important and can influence them in a positive way.  In a 2 1/2 hour program, children will tour museum, learn about a digital camera, shoot photos at a site, upload photos to computer and write about their experience. Volunteers needed - no knowledge of photography required but passion for arts and passing that on to children.  The last Children's Program was on Saturday, April 19, 2008 at Alpha House.  Check back for future events.

Children's Photographic Workshops / Events

Workshops / events presented by the museum are designed specifically for children.  The content is based on the exhibit appearing at the time or a special event and involves a tour of the art work and hands-on experience.

Our next workshop, Dia De Los Muertos Masks, is on Saturday, October 4.  After a tour of the museum the children will be given a brief history of Graciella Iturbide, and told of the importance of her Mexican heritage as an influence on her work.  The children will make traditional Mexican Dia De Los Muertos masks through the art of collage.

Photocamp 2008 was a great success and ended June 13.  It was a special photographic experience for  children (age range 7-15) to broaden their horizons in this summer program.  Something was offered for every budding photographer! Check back for future events of this type.
