“Beautiful hand colored by Hogan, Grangeville, Idaho. Mike Cowdrey writes ‘The man’s wool leggings, with decorated panels of beadwork & inset wool at the cuffs, are of Crow origin, and indicative of intermontane trade between the Corws and the Nez-Perce. The man holds a courting flute, and over his left arm has draped a decorative otterskin, by way of prestigious ornamentation. A pink conch-shell disc, and a tanned ermine skin are tied to his left braid…. His breechcloth is torn from a fringed, plaid shawl.’ Note stamped leather pouch on wicker chair. Image ca. 1895.”
