The popular television
meteorologist Laura York
will be the auctioneer
for the live auction
that features 14 of the
celebrated Cirkut
photographs. Available
to the public for the
first time, they were
taken by the Burgert
Brothers Commercial
Photography Studio in
Tampa.
Most of them are forty
inches long and ten
inches high. They were
made using Cirkut
cameras, large-format
rotational cameras
manufactured between
1904 and 1943 that could
capture a 360-degree
view.
The negatives of the
Burgert Brothers
photographs were
produced on nitrate
film, which had
deteriorated over time.
Thanks to a special
project undertaken by
the Friends of the
Library, the negatives
have recently been
preserved and scanned.
Among the works in the
auction are the famous
1927 New York Yankees
baseball team and Tony
Jannus’ first commercial
airplane flight in 1914.
